Community Update: Week 15

As part of our ongoing efforts to deliver you more information about the work of our teams, we have decided to publish a community report once a week. These reports will contain valuable insights about ongoing work on the current development iteration, as well as our progress on bugs. We will also provide some statistics about our platform.

DevBlog

Last Friday, we have officially released our DevBlog. As part of the Grepolis United project, the blog will allow us to share some of the concepts we have in mind, in order to get some early feedback from our community about the ideas we have. It will also give our developers the opportunity to take you behind the scenes of Grepolis to explain how a certain feature is working, what it means to be a developer for Grepolis, what kind of technical difficulties they have to face, and so on. Do not forget to check the DevBlog frequently, or subscribe to our RSS feed to stay up-to-date.

Rebalancing

To kick off the DevBlog, we have decided to publish the ideas about the big rebalancing of the game. As mentioned in the roadmap, some units, researches, and special buildings are quite unpopular. Before thinking about introducing new units to the game, we would like to focus on making every unit, research, and special building a viable option. We know that changes like that can have a big impact on your gameplay, which is why we have decided to release the information way in advance, so all of you have the opportunity to be involved in the process of finding the right balance for Grepolis. We are currently gathering the feedback from the different forums as well as from this blog to get prepared for the next step.

Beta Update 2.38

The development of the new Grepolis Update 2.38 has been finished on Friday. The latest changes have already been deployed on our beta environment (http://beta.grepolis.com). This version features some nice changes, such as the sound notification for incoming attacks, the globally shared connection system, and performance improvements of some premium overviews. With 2.38, our team has also resolved around 30 open bugs.

The current update schedule is the following:

  • April, 11th: first French and German worlds;
  • April, 16th: EN market;
  • April, 17th: FR and DE markets;
  • April, 18th: international roll-out.

Details will be announced by your local community manager on the forums.

Easter Event 2013

This year’s Easter Event has finished yesterday for most of the European countries. The chicken coop has closed on Friday and players had the possibility to spend their remaining eggs in the shop until April, 9th. No major issue has been encountered, and we hope you all enjoyed taking part in the Easter Event.

Current Progress

On Monday, our team has started working on the development of version 2.39. The focus for this version is on:

Island quests
The work on the island quests has been ongoing for several weeks now and it is almost done. However, it still needs a lot of testing and a bit of polishing before we can release it. We hope to achieve this with the current version being prepared.

Heroes
Some technical preparations have already been done to get the Heroes working the way we want, but most of the implementation still needs to be done and will take some time. The screen designs have been approved and our graphic artist is working hard on the illustrations of the different heroes we have planned.

First 7 days login reward
The implementation of a new concept has been squeezed into our roadmap: the first 7 days login reward! During the first 7 days when starting on a world, players will get extra rewards once per day. Of course, existing players will also benefit from those rewards to make sure everyone got it once in his Grepolis career.

I’d like the possibility to exchange favor ^^

Sorry for my bad English… πŸ˜‰

  2. A player of .ro says:

You had a great idea with ”Islands quests”, and I hope that Changelog 2.39 will release soon.

  3. Peelioka says:

Have you considered using the old worlds like Alpha, Beta etc for beta testing; we’re all old and experienced players so could probably give useful insight into anything new. And also I think the majority of us really don’t want our world to end πŸ™‚

    • Jordan Coutout says:

There are unfortunately not enough players on worlds like Alpha, Beta, etc. And those worlds are considered as production worlds, we don’t want to update too many of them with an unstable version of the game πŸ™‚

However, we invite all experienced players to take part in the public beta if they are interested in testing new features before release.

      • Peelioka says:

Thanks πŸ™‚ I’d love to help in the beta testing team and I’m sure a lot of the other guys in the old worlds would. I’m not sure how to access it.

        • Jordan Coutout says:

Public Beta is open to everyone. Feel free to register on http://beta.grepolis.com πŸ˜‰

          • Chatthenater says:

Lol the beta just looks like the normall grepolis πŸ˜‰ im going to test it out now! ;D
But is there a nl beta? Because there is a nl grepolis to πŸ™‚

          • Jordan Coutout says:

There is only one international public beta server. We don’t see the need of having one beta server to maintain for each language.

The beta is currently running on v.2.38. Within the next week, we will roll out the first state of the Island Quests there πŸ˜‰ So stay tuned!

  4. Xenagos says:

I’d like to see players be able to abandon, ie ghost, individual cities, and I’d like to see players be able to give/trade/swap cities to other players without war.

Territory changed hands historically without war from time to time to ‘buy’ peace or get rid off a particularly pesky people.

Random plague hitting player cities perhaps tied in with the P Merchant as a risk to offset the benefit.

Random revolt of a player’s city could shake up the predicability of things and may be a way to induce players to build certain buildings up past certain levels to keep thier people happy and loyal.

  5. Atipolis says:

I personally would like to bring a new unit or some mythical or normal boat attack or defense of the incendarias biremes and to have something different or come to the goddess Artemis normal worlds

  6. Ark4ng3l says:

Hello I play Grepolis Spain. And I see that there is nothing the alliance. It would be good to promote the competitiveness of the game and the ali. Then create buildings alliance. But style buildings that most of the ali attacker will Give for example 5% more attack in a week or defense if the player defended the ali. Also if you collaborate on the ali you give points to the most active members. So it would be a way to motivate more people. And that is not so easy to switch from alliance.

  7. Chatthenater says:

I woud be very happy if you added an anti alliantie inviting script or something, because i had a alliantie with around 60 people and they left because a onther bigger alliantie stole them From me! I dont like that, even my best friends are leaving! I only have 3 people left
But the game is realy awesome! Keep going! And im very happy you can play it on ipad to, im already 3 weeks long every day online so i get funny items πŸ™‚

Sorry for bad english my stupid ipad keeps changing the words

  8. SA says:

Something is wrong, when you come to a new world. Placed on an island with a group of allied opponents. As “eat” up my resources before I have had the opportunity to build my city.
There should be some sort of limitation of attacking during the accumulation period. The only thing I experienced from playing Grepolis so far, is that my city is taken over by another player and that I been moved around to another island and start over. This tactics of players, makes you stop playing! So give the player a changs before they stop playing!

    • Chatthenater says:

U have beginners-defence… If ur a good player, u will not get Owned at the begin! U have to do ur best and dont take worlds with much players if ur new

  9. SA says:

Just losed my town AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, for your advise !!

    • Chatthenater says:

      Here are some tips:
      Go in a alliance
      Make people your friend
      Dont attack if ur weak
Go to a world with much beginners defence

Good luck! And no problem πŸ˜‰

  10. makès says:

    hi,

why dont u put commerce on “orders”?

it would be great to know with an overwiew how your commerce are advancing andf how much time it takes for all of them…

    best regrdsmakès

  11. Yury says:

    1. That’s impossible to make “every … research… a viable option”.
In any case will exist group of research “must have” increasing population, slings and HM to conquer villages, reducing cost of fleet and land troops.
Second group are researches which important for city specialisation.
So think about “free RP” – nearly 12-20 (up to 30 for strong city specialisation) and make researches of this group equally useful.

    2. Grepolis battale system are nonlinear. I means that 200 LS produce more damage as 2 x 100 LS. Due to this reason a strong city specialization (naval/land – offesive/deffensive) are necessory and all good players follow this rule – attack with huge LS or OLU nukes.
Dont think about “universal improvement of abstract universal city”. Only researches and buildings which emphasize city specialisation will be popular in the middle and second half of any world.

    Good luck!

  12. Terminus Zeta says:

This dev blog is a great ideal. I have an ideal that you might be able to work with but it would be a long file and my computer skills are a little rusty. It involves making some changes in farming to alow those who don’t want to be the warrior types to be better involved

  13. Ochana says:

The in-game chat has no privacy if you want to speak with someone about something concerning the game you have to send him/her a Private message i would suggest a feature that makes your chat private this would be good for an alliance meeting.
