Community update: week 35 & 36

Dear Community,

Have you missed us already? Good thing we have the new community update for you today! Here’s all you need to know for calendar weeks 35 and 36…

Player Council elections

Those of you following our forum announcements and community updates know that we held the first ever elections for the Grepolis Player Council recently.  The ballots closed on September 3rd and we have just finished counting and verifying all the votes that have come in.

Overall we accounted for a total of 54.936 unique votes across all eligible language versions and could confirm 57 out of 102 candidates as members for the Local Council. The community teams are in the process of announcing the results, which will give you all the details for your local candidates.

We would already like to thank everyone who participated in the elections and cast their votes, as well as all the candidates of course and are looking forward to a good cooperation.

v2.146

The update to version 2.146 for both browser and mobile devices took part this week.

In this version we provided the travel time simulator for the city foundation preparation screen, which gives you the chance to plan settlements in as much detail as possible while checking how much time would be needed to send e.g. support to the city you plan to found.

At the same time we tackled some technical topics and fixed bugs as per usual.

Next version preview

The sprint for version 2.147 ended today.

Given that we have some more events coming up later this year, we have been busy preparing for these and don’t have a lot of visible changes to show for in this version. The most notable change will be added in-game information about obtained offerings in the mobile version of the Game, adding the same limited event support for the Incantation Circle event as previously done for the event In Demeters name.
However, you will still benefit from some of these changes less visible changes as they will enable our community teams to give you even better support on event related topics. Therefore we will also follow our regular update schedule.

The current update schedule for v2.147 is as follows:

Tuesday, September 19th: NL, SE and SK market
Wednesday, September 20th: international roll-out

Although the update does not contain a lot of visible changes, we still invite you to test this new version on our public beta servers and follow the daily changelogs closely on the beta forums.

Any news about the new forum design?

    • Steffi says:

The work on it was paused for a while as the responsible developers were temporarily unavailable.

However, only recently the project was picked up again and I personally hope to finally be able to show everyone the results soon.

    Hello –

There’s been a rumor going around, and I’m wondering if you are aware of any official announcements made about it, or know if there is any truth to it.

A little ways back there was word that a mod in the NL servers announced that the grepolis developers were going to be releasing only active morale worlds from here on out. If you have any information about it – will this be true for all servers?

    Thanks in advance.

      Hello T.,

We are working on the morale system right now and the objective is to have the majority of the worlds released to be morale active worlds yes.

      Cheers

    Dear bernardgra.,

Is there a particular reason to this and if so could you elaborate on this?

I used to be a supporter of the whole moral concept, allowing people who started later or grow quicker to not get completely crushed by a player who has a higher pointcount and thus more troops or the opportunity to make troops quicker.

However after becoming more acquainted with the game itself, winning a world and being very active in general Ive started to dislike it. It can be abused by the attacker throwing Colonyships on a WW and using the moral advantage.

Another issue or purely toxic way of using the moral system is people who just build their wall up to level 25, put in the Tower special building and only build defensive units and then abandon their account or log in every few days / week.

Both of these issues could be addressed by removing moral after a world has hit the worldwonder threshhold.

And thus this notion of having the majority of the worlds being released as a morale active world can be quite distastefull for some people.

Will you be releasing the exact percentage?

How come some servers actively have their playerbase vote on worldsettings and some barely if ever allow this to happen?

Thanks for your time and I wish you the best of luck.

      Hello Rindo,

The reason is like you said, we want to allow younger players and players that start later in the world to have some chance against the more experienced and prepared players. Our goal is to provide a fair and competitive environment to all active players.

We understand that as it is currently, the morale system allows for some exploits and for that reason we are putting a big effort into it. Our goal is to cover all the possible misuse of the system while still providing the necessary protection to young players and late starters.

Removing the morale system based on the “age” of the world might solve those issues but it also creates others, we do not want to forsake the smaller players and alliances that still have some hope of competing in the world wonder age by taking the little protection they can have from the morale. That is why we are trying to explore different approaches to the system, I am about to post some new info about this and would really love to have more feedback from you and everyone interested, we are trying to tackle most of the main issues with morale and you guys are the ones that can help us list it.

We wont be releasing an exact percentage because we want to be flexible enough to adapt the worlds based on both community and design perspective, our intention is always to provide the best gameplay possible.

The voting on the world settings is a tool that some community teams use to learn more about player preferences. Ultimately we make the decision on the voting options and the final settings as we know that the active forum community may have certain preferences that do not apply to the player base as a whole. We value the voting results as they give us some great insights but sometimes we do need to adjust a few of the “winning” settings.

      Cheers,
      Bernard
