Community update: week 03 & 04

Dear community,

Welcome to our community update for the calendar weeks 3 and 4.

Here are all the important news that you don’t want to miss.

Reveal of new endgame proposal

This week, Bernard published our current proposal for a new endgame.

We’re really looking forward to your feedback, so please share it as comment to his post or on your local forums.

Mobile issues with app notifications

We have encountered some issues with our app notifications in the past weeks, some with more impact than others. Most notably was of course that our attack notification sound not working as intended, first causing the app to crash and then forcing us to use the system wide default sound for the time being.

Some have been asking why the fix took us so long (and rightfully so) and why this fix was accompanied by other issues, such as vibration not working reliably up until the update to 2.155.

The main reason for all these issues was that we updated our mobile SDK to Air 27 late last year and updated all our code in accordance to the new requirements of this version. After this update, we noticed that app notifications caused an increasing amount of errors. Of course troubleshooting started right away, but little did we know that a general bug with the Android operating system would cause our technical implementation to generate more and more errors that could not be explained by faulty implementation or code. As soon as we finally discovered this known issue on Google’s end, we were able to downgrade that part of our app implentation to old standards and make it work as intended.

We are obviously still very sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused for you and are happy that the issues should now finally be resolved for all our Android users.

v2.155

The update to game version 2.155 has taken place this week.

The main change in this version affects the way bonus effects work on cities that are being besieged. While a siege still cancels all effects for the duration of the siege itself, bonus effects will now be restored if the siege was successfully cancelled by defending the city or getting the conqueror to abort the siege. Furthermore we are now storing event-specific effects that can be purchased for the whole event duration (Devoted Priests and Witch’s Wisdom) to be restored once you restart on a game world.

We also made some minor adjustments to the user interface, which may cause problems with third party user scripts. If you encounter any graphical issues, such as interface elements missing or overlapping, please deactivate the scripts for the time being, until any issues could be fixed on script developer side.

Next version preview

The sprint work for version 2.156 was concluded today.

In this sprint, we implemented a new take on the existing crown feature that indicates that you were once part of an alliance, finishing all 7 wonders on a world. The idea was initially raised by the community and aims to reward those players who have become Master of multiple worlds with additional rights to show off what they achieved. Instead of there just being one crown, there are now 5 different crown types, indicating that you made it 1, 3, 5 or 7 times on different worlds.

Furthermore we have 3 heroes losing their event exclusive status: Medea, Daidalos and Telemachos.

The current update schedule for v2.156 is as follows:

Tuesday, February 6: NL, SE and SK market
Wednesday, February 7: international roll-out

If you would like to check out the changes before they go live on your game worlds, you can log in to our beta servers. To know which new features are available for testing, please follow our daily changelogs. We’re looking forward to your feedback!
