We wanted to give you all an update, as well as a sneak peek into some gorgeous new artwork and game screens which will be used in our endgame. First things first, the name of this upcoming feature was formerly known as Temple Hunt. Temple Hunt was always a working title, and we opted to simply rename it to Olympus. The reason for this is we feel it better articulates how players win the world in the same way World Wonders and Domination do.
The second topic we wanted to cover was to take the time to thank you for your patience. We know that for a little while now, it may have felt like nothing exciting or new has been added to Grepolis. This is because our team has been hard at work and focused on bringing Olympus to you. As we’ve delved deeper into this fantastic new concept, we’ve found at every turn that we can really do more than just deliver a new endgame to Grepolis, which is why we also wanted to shift the narrative a little bit, and call Olympus what it is; a new game mode. What does this mean, though? What it really means is that Olympus transforms the way you play Grepolis, and touches on every aspect of the game, and how it is fundamentally played. Olympus really does redesign the strategy needed for Grepolis, and touches specifically on how the map is laid out right from the start. We anticipate that Olympus will open the door to entirely new and innovative strategies and play styles, and this is really exciting to us!
However, lets answer a question some of you may already have and state that no, Olympus will not replace Grepolis’s core gameplay. Worlds which are already open will remain as either World Wonder or Domination worlds, and we will open Olympus world on all markets come our live release. We’re not killing off World Wonders or Domination. We will continue to release new worlds with World Wonders, Domination, and Olympus going forward.
With this being said, we wanted to let you all know that due to the scale of the project, Olympus, while coming to our Beta server in the coming weeks, is still in development. We continue working on the later stages, Large Temples and Olympus, adding these based not only on community feedback, but data we analyze during the first weeks of this new world. We of course will also make adjustments to pre-temple and small temple phases based on community feedback. This means your feedback on Beta will be more important than ever in shaping Olympus.
Now on to the pretty stuff! We thought it’d be a nice to share some of our work with you, and describe some of the upcoming content in detail. First on the agenda is some artwork:
As you can see, our artists have really transformed Olympus from an idea into a beautiful depiction of Ancient Greece. Can you guess which temple belongs to which god?
To give you as much information about each temple as possible, we designed a new window that will give you overview on troops defending the temple and their buffs. Once your alliance will take over the temple, alliance members will be able to see the commands coming to it.
How will the map change?
Last but not least, we wanted to share a screenshot from one of our tools which shows the temple distribution throughout our internal test world. As you can see, it gives you an idea of how a world could look during the Olympus phase of the game. The yellow dots represent the small temples available for capture, the white circles represent the large starter islands. These islands are all open from the start of the world, making for a different overall distribution from day one. Please note, the grid is not representative of distribution on a live world, and each grid does not represent an ocean. We’re hoping this goes some way to help you visualize how things could look in a future Olympus world.
We hope that this small preview has given you some more insight into the process we’re going through to deliver this awesome new feature to you all. Once again, thank you for your patience, and please make sure you’re signed up to Beta so you can join our Beta world for Olympus when we open it in the coming weeks.
